This April we would like to recognize two outstanding Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV volunteers, Ian Roberts and Steve Fiske.
Ian has been volunteering with us since October 2012 and has been to almost every build site, including new construction and Critical Home Repairs/Disability Modifications and has spent many days at the Chatsworth Habitat Restore. He started volunteering after watching a documentary about Habitat for Humanity. He was inspired by the work Habitat does worldwide and wanted to make a difference right here in his local community. He was also excited to learn that our Habitat for Humanity affiliate is focusing on providing housing to our Veterans.
In Ian’s Words:
“I come from a family of Army and Navy serviceman so I grew up to hear their stories and to appreciate what they have done for our country. They gave their time for our country and I feel that being a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity is my way of showing my sense of pride by giving my time to help people in need of low-income housing.”
“Being a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity gives me a chance to donate my skills as a Carpenter while helping a great cause where it is most needed and appreciated. It also gives me a chance to meet and work with other volunteers that share my enthusiasm and commitment.”
THANK YOU IAN!!
Steve Fiske has been volunteering for Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys for about a year. He has helped us with many in-kind plumbing services and other tasks. Because he donates his time and services, we are able to build and repair more homes for our low-income working and low-income veteran families.
In Steve’s words:
“After 30 years in business as a plumbing contractor, and after retiring to Oregon for a number of years, I missed the challenges of my profession. I enjoy working with my hands, but more importantly, I enjoy problem solving and watching a project develop and succeed.”
THANK YOU STEVE!
