Welcoming Veterans and their families to the community, 28 families in Phase 2 were presented keys to their new homes during the Santa Clarita Key Ceremony on Saturday.
With the completion of these 28 new homes, Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV will have built or repaired 350 homes with the help of members and businesses of the community as well as the Veterans themselves.
These families will have completed over 13,000 hours of sweat equity towards homeownership by their move-in dates of Saturday, Oct. 1, and Tuesday, Nov. 1. They currently have completed over 12,650 of these required hours and are nearly finished meeting the total requirements.
More than 35% of Phase 2 families have already completed more hours than are required of them. Over 4,500 of their hours were met through helping build their own homes as of Aug. 24 of this year.
Last year the city welcomed 26 other Veteran families to the community and into their new homes. Today, 24 more homes are currently being built to welcome even more deserving veterans and their families.
The 28 new Veteran families will be moving into the 78-home CalVet REN Enriched Neighborhood built and provided by Habitat for Humanity. The area honors organization and community members along the streets and areas of these new homes by granting them such names as Doss Place, Harry Bell Place, and Goldman Place.
