Northrop Grumman helped change the life of one disabled veteran Saturday, January 21 and will help other low-income veterans in the Antelope Valley in the coming months. As part of the City of Lancaster’s MLK Day of Service, Northrop Grumman helped volunteer for Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ with a Critical Home Repair/Disability Modification on a 100% Vietnam Veteran’s home in Palmdale. This effort to serve veterans with housing services is Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV’s “Habitat for Heroes” program. Northrop Grumman furthered their support by providing funding to assist more local veterans with repair needs and disability modifications in the Antelope Valley.
The MLK day home repair was on Robert Primeaux’s home. Robert was recently honored in Washington DC at the Vietnam Wall Celebration as one of the few remaining 100% disabled veterans in the Vietnam Conflict. He’s is a low-income veteran. Before MLK Day, his home had no carpeting, padding or any flooring, as it needed to be taken up due to water damage. Although the major leaking issue had been fixed, he was unable to live in the home at the time due to lack of flooring and need for minor repairs and sealing.
The “Habitat for Heroes” program is an effort by Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV to focus on ensuring veterans are supported through home modifications, education, and accommodating services that will help prevent them from common house-related problems that veterans face and often lead to homelessness. Through the Habitat program, and the hard work of volunteers from the Northrop Grumman Corporation and Home Depot, Primeaux and his son are able to move back into their Palmdale home.
