The mission to serve is not over for Marine veteran, James Allison. Over the past four months, Allison has been serving as a Mission Continues Fellow with Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV, assisting with veteran homeowner recruitment and volunteer services.
The Mission Continues is a non-profit organization that awards community service fellowships to post-9/11 veterans, empowering them to transform their own lives by serving others and directly impacting their communities. Fellows are encouraged to choose a nonprofit organization to serve based on their own personal passions.
“I love working for an organization that assists families in need and I have especially enjoyed working for our veterans,” said Allison.
For Allison, assisting veterans with homeownership is one the most fulfilling parts of his fellowship. In addition to helping those who have served our country alongside him, Allison has learned new skills that will help him reach his non-profit career goals.
“I have been able to meet with influential people within my community; as well as, had the opportunity to be instrumentally involved within getting our veterans a well-deserved and fruitful benefit: affordable housing,” said Allison. “Also, my public speaking and analysis skills have greatly improved since the beginning of my service with Habitat for Humanity.”
Allison’s service will be completed in June and Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking a new Mission Continues Fellow to serve in the coming months.
Post 9/11 veterans who are interested in applying for the fellowship position should contact the Volunteer Coordinator at Volunteer@HumanityCA.org or call (818) 884-8808.
