Meet two Military Spouses continuing to provide support during COVID-19
The dedication and service of military spouses can often go overlooked. Today, we highlight two strong women who are providing COVID-19 support in their own ways.
Meet Stephanie
Stephanie is an essential worker, working as a Medical Assistant for Kaiser Permanente in Woodland Hills.
Stephanie knows that going into work every day is a risk, but says that it is what she signed up for and is very proud of what she does. Stephanie is passionate about helping others and keeping us all safe and healthy.
Stephanie, her Marine Corps Veteran husband, and their two young daughters are currently waiting to move into the Palmdale Veteran Enriched Neighborhood® until lights and water services are fully installed. Homes 4 Families is in the process of installing utilities for the entire project, and will build the first phase of homes for veterans who will become Stephanie’s neighbors.
Meet Selena
Selena is a mother of two, and the wife of an Air Force Veteran. This very sweet family moved into our Santa Clarita Veteran Enriched Neighborhood® in 2018. Selena works as a hairstylist which is a profession that has been hit very hard by the social distancing and Safer at Home orders. But that hasn’t stopped Selena from giving back, and using her aesthetic eye for good. In her own words…
“I started making the cloth face covers to give to my family. That quickly branches out to wanting to donate some to any high-risk neighbors in the community. That lead to friends of friends who worked in our local hospitals reaching out, who were in desperate need for themselves and their teams. Anyone and everyone who asks, I am more than happy to donate face covers to them! I feel blessed to have people generously make monetary donations, so I can purchase more material, so I can continue to sew. This is my little way of giving back. I wish I could tell you how many I have made to date, but I lost count after 350, and that was a few weeks ago. :)”
Thanks to the Homes4Families model and CalVet, Selena has an affordable mortgage in a community where people do things like this for one another in times of need. Please consider making a donation to the Family Service Fund to help some of the veterans in the community who need additional support such as food and mortgage assistance.
Stephanie and Selena are just two of thousands of veterans and military family members who are continuing to work essential jobs and provide support during the COVID-19 crisis.
We thank our healthcare works and first responders, and those of you in the community who do what you can to help during this time.
Your help is needed now to build the homes of Stephanie’s neighbors. These are low-income veterans who may be at the brink of homelessness or living in severely substandard conditions. The more money we can raise, the quicker we can build and move these deserving veterans into their new, affordable homes. Or you can choose to support Selena’s neighbors with basic needs and access to resources. These families all have stable and affordable housing, but are not immune to job loss and increased costs during this crisis.
This upcoming Tuesday, May 5th, we celebrate #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of unity to respond to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
Help us give thanks to those on the front lines and others working essential jobs to keep us safe and moving through this crisis by donating today.
