Lockheed Martin Achieves ½ House Sponsorship Level
Thank you to Lockheed Martin who has achieved the ½ House Sponsorship Level with their most recent contribution to Habitat SF/SCV’s Santa Clarita Enriched Neighborhood® for low-income families.
Lockheed Martin, who Forbes declared the #1 top employer for Veterans in 2016, is obviously no stranger to supporting veterans and their families. They have been partners of our Santa Clarita Enriched Neighborhood® for low-income veterans and their families since the project began in 2013. This project provides low-income working veteran families an opportunity to purchase an affordable home in a community of veterans. What makes this model most unique is the no-cost self-sufficiency training and social services proven to increase resiliency and move families up into the middle class. Provision of these services, such as financial training, trauma-informed art and writing workshops, and educational programs allow our families to become self-sufficient and learn skills and necessary tools to move out of the endless cycle of poverty housing and into the middle class. Moreover, the mortgages they pay are reinvested into new homes in the surrounding community— meaning that every contribution to build a new neighborhood creates more opportunities for reinvestments by homeowners, leveraging the initial contribution exponentially.
We are excited that in the coming year, we will break ground on a 56-home Enriched Neighborhood® for low-income veterans in Lockheed Martin’s backyard of Palmdale, California. We thank Lockheed Martin for their ongoing support of our neighborhoods, and for their ongoing dedication to veterans.
