On Friday, March 1, Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys will be presenting their Hammer of Hope award to KHTS AM 1220 owners Carl and Jeri Goldman, along with the Southern California Gas Company at their annual Habitat for Hearts Heroes Ball. The 2013 Habitat Hearts for Heroes Builders Ball will be held at the Universal Sheraton in Universal City. The event, chaired by Doreen Shine, will begin at 6 p.m. and is black tie optional.
Each year, Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV celebrates the contributions and accomplishments of corporations or civic leaders. This year’s event will focus on Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV’s work with veterans through the Habitat for Heroes program.
Carl Goldman and wife, Jeri will be honored for their commitment to improve the economic development and homeownership opportunities of low-income working people, including veterans, hospital workers, service industry members and more. The Goldman’s purchased Santa Clarita’s only local radio station in 1990, AM 1220, KBET. In 1998, the Goldmans sold the station to Clear Channel, but later bought the station back in 2003 and it is now known as KHTS.
The Goldmans are very active in the community and have continued to show their devotion to SCV Habitat for Heroes, a Habitat for Humanity project helping veterans in our Valley get the assistance they need, helping local veterans and their families with home-ownership opportunities.
Southern California Gas Company is a founding sponsor of the Habitat for Heroes program and has been instrumental in developing and moving the program forward through the community representatives in Santa Clarita Valley. Mike Mizrahi, SoCalGas Regional Public Affairs Manager, currently serves on the Habitat for Humanity, SF/SCV Board of Directors and is also a member of the Executive Board. He chairs Habitat’s Public Relations and Marketing Committee, which has supported the Habitat for Heroes program.
