Home Depot, lead sponsor for the Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys’ Habitat for Heroes’ Critical Home Repair/Disability Modification program, helped modify and repair a disabled female Vietnam veteran’s home in Santa Clarita last Friday, Feb 22. Home Depot employees from the Santa Clarita stores built Judy Young a ramp and railings on the exterior of her mobile home so that her and her disabled daughter could enter and exit the home without assistance, a task that was previously impossible.
Home Depot also replaced rotting carpeting in the bathrooms and performed several minor repairs around the home to make it more affordable and livable for the family of three women.
Veteran Critical Home Repair/Disability Modification is a Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV program for helping low-income Veteran families in homes that are in need of more than just exterior work, and have not been through a natural disaster. Repairs include, roofing, flooring, weatherization, replacing inefficient appliances, and any other necessary repairs to make the home less expensive to maintain. Disability modifications include adding ramps, railings, door widening, shower modifications, etc.
