The Harold Edelstein Foundation has given Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV the opportunity to assist several low-income veteran families through our enrichment programs and our Veggies for Vets build.
Several months ago, with the help of the Harold Edelstein’s Foundation, Harold’s Help Desk, we built over 15 raised vegetable gardens for 10 veteran centers and shelters in Santa Clarita and the Antelope Valley.
This year, we are expanding this model to be used in our two new veteran-specific “enriched” communities being built in Sylmar and Santa Clarita. We will be building urban gardens for the families to plant vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
We will also partner with other organizations who will teach Healthy Eating/Active Living workshops to our families in the communities.
We expect these communities to have similar results to our existing “enriched” community in Pacoima, where we currently have 0% teen pregnancy rates, have yearly dental and diabetes screenings, and have a full urban community garden where the families grow vegetables for the entire community to use.
With The Harold Edelstein Foundation’s support, we are able to continue transforming the lives of families in need and improving the community through pride of home ownership and enrichment services. Thank you again for helping us “build better tomorrows, today!”
