Saturday, October 27th Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys hosted a Family Halloween party at the Pierce Street Villas 61 home community in Pacoima. Local Habitat Youth United chapters hosted booths where children played games, got their faces painted, won candy and worked on Halloween-themed crafts.
For most of the Habitat SF/SCV families this is the first time celebrating Halloween as many come from low-income neighborhoods with large gang populations where it is not safe for the children to go outside and trick-or-treat after dark. Now finally living in a safe gated community with other like-minded families, children were excited to participate in this great event and learn more about this fun day.
In addition to Halloween fun, the Citibank-sponsored Youth Policy Institute (YPI) came out to talk to the parents about their college financial planning programs. YPI hosted a booth where families could sign up for a college savings program through Citibank. Offered as part of Habitat for Humanity SF/SCV’s Enriched Neighborhood® Model, families will be able to save for their children’s college through a matching program offered by Citibank.”
